CHILD’S BLUE BERRY FARM PLANTS TREE TO COMMEMORATE LEADERSHIP CATTARAUGUS AGRI-BUSINESS DAY
The Class of 2008 of Leadership Cattaraugus participated in the first Agri-Business Day since the inception of the program. Agri-Business Day recognizes the importance of the agriculture sector to the area’s economy.
While visiting Schicthel’s Nursery in Springville, the group saw a demonstration of how trees are pulled and balled in burlap. Following this, James Kisker, Marketing Manager for Schitchel’s, donated the tree, and Carrie Child’s, co-owner of Child’s Blueberry Farm, accepted it.
The silver maple tree presented to by Schichtel's was planted in a place of importance at the blueberry farm. The Child’s have a row of various trees of special significance along Cooper Hill Road in front of their organic field. Daniel and Carrie Childs are referring to it as the Leadership Cattaraugus First Agri-Business Day Commemorative Maple Tree and will eventually put a plaque next to it. When you come up to pick blueberries, you will see it on the right near their driveway, across the road from where a new berry shack will be built.
