Leadership Cattaraugus presents Alumnus of Year Award to Tim Whitcomb.
Tim began his career in Cattaraugus County as a road patrol deputy almost 25 years ago, moving through the ranks to administrative lieutenant before former Sheriff Dennis John appointed him undersheriff in October 2005, and is now Cattaraugus County Sheriff.
Tim holds degrees from Genesee Community College, Empire State College, and St. Bonaventure, where he earned a master's in counselor education (2001). He also graduated from Erie Community College's Police Services Training Academy and the FBI's National Academy in Quantico, Va. Tim teaches criminal justice at JCC and St. Bonaventure.
He was valedictorian for Leadership Cattaraugus' class of 2008.
His Board service is exemplary:
ü all Executive Titles within the State of New York Police Juvenile Officer's Association retiring as their President in 2004
ü Board of Directors for Cattaraugus Community Action and held the office of Vice-President
ü The Advisory Board for the NYS Office of Children and Family
Services - Limestone Facility prior to it being closed in 2008.
ü Treasurer for the Cattaraugus County Volunteer Fire Police Association
In giving the award, the Board of Directors commented: “We are proud to have Tim as an alum of Leadership Cattaraugus. It was Tim’s idea to have a flowering dogwood tree planted on the JCC campus to commemorate the class of 2008. It was Tim’s idea to have the Leadership Cattaraugus Challenge Coin introduced in 2008, also.
Tim exemplifies leadership and is an outstanding representative of Leadership Cattaraugus. We are a better organization with Tim as an alumnus.”
